Now that we are in the middle of an Alberta winter, many Edmontonians have been dealing with snow removal and ice maintenance around their properties on driveways, walkways and sidewalks. Clear sidewalks make winter walking safer, especially for people with limited mobility who are more at risk of falling. Snowy and icy sidewalks must be cleared within 48 hours after the end of a snowfall or the property owner risks a $100 fine issued by the city. It is good practice to apply sand to sidewalks when ice is present. Sand is available for free at the City of Edmonton roadway maintenance yards at the following locations:
Central: 10517 - 95 Street
Northeast: 13003 - 56 Street
Southeast: 5409 - 59 Avenue
Southwest: 14710 Ellerslie Road (on the roadway beside the eco station)
Northwest: 14320 - 114 Avenue
The sand can be found outside the fence. Please do not enter the yard. You can learn more information about the City of Edmonton snow and ice policy at www.edmonton.ca/snowinthecity.
